Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 pound dry light or dark red kidney beans

  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 1 ham bone

  • 2 teaspoons whole cloves (tie in a small cheesecloth bag)

  • 1 can (8-oz.) tomato sauce

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons molasses or syrup

  • Salt to taste (1 to 2 tsp.)

Instructions

Soak beans by preferred method. Drain. Cover beans with fresh water, heat to boiling. Add sliced onion, ham bone, and cloves. Simmer 2 hours. Discard the cloves, and add remaining ingredients. Simmer an hour longer, adding a little hot water if beans cook too dry. Makes a hearty dish for 4.
